ABOUT CHRISTOPHER S. GOEKEN

Christopher S. Goeken is an attorney and activist who has worked in progressive circles and the LGBT community for many years. He assisted in the successful challenge to the anti-gay Amendment Two in Colorado, working with Lambda Legal Defense and a key expert witness. Later, Christopher started a new program on police misconduct issues while a staff attorney with the Gay and Lesbian Anti-Violence Project. While working in the New York State Senate, he directed political operations that were instrumental in the passage of the state’s hate crimes act.

in national and local media
for his advocacy work.
Christopher served as Vice Chair of the state’s largest consumer advocacy group, the New York Public Interest Research Group. He was the Communications Director for the New York State Trial Lawyers Association, one of the largest and most influential groups in state politics. Christopher assisted in the legal challenge to onerous changes in asylum law while with the ACLU Immigrant's Rights Project. He has worked on electoral and issue campaigns throughout the state. He is a member of the Lesbian and Gay Lawyers Association and the Association of the Bar of the City of New York. His blog tracks current cases of interest to the LGBT community.

Christopher was honored for his work in the LGBT community by the Brooklyn Borough President in 2002 and by Immigration Equality for his pro bono activities in 2006.
